personal statement
Hello, I am Stephanie Landas, and I am a ninth grader at Bayside High School Health Sciences Academy. I have always been interested in medicine and medical careers, even when I was young. Since the second grade, I have wanted to become a dentist and I was always interested in having some form of medical career. The subject is very intriguing to me, and I hope I do become a dentist like I have always wanted to do.
Before I even went to the Health Science Academy, I went to Kemps Landing Magnet School, which requires a higher understanding of knowledge to get in. When I was at Kemps Landing, I earned honor roll all 3 years, and I was part of the school orchestra for all 3 years. I also took violin lessons while I was in the 7th and 8th grade and took piano lessons from 1st grade to 8th grade. I’ve always had a passion for music, and I hope to continue playing some instrument for the rest of my life.
For the past 2 summers, I have volunteered with my church to go on a mission trip to Atlanta, Georgia. On these trips, we helped feed the homeless and helped many homeless shelters, we helped create gardens for a pregnant women’s shelter, we helped clean the church, which aids the homeless in their community, and we did this all while helping our relationship with God. With my church, I also volunteer at the People In Need Ministry, which is a homeless shelter that aids those in Virginia Beach.
Since I was at Bayside, I have become certified in CPR by the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) and in First Aid by the American Heart Association (AHA). I was on the Principal’s List for the first semester, and I earned Honor Roll for the 3rd quarter. I play the violin and am in the school’s advanced orchestra. I have volunteered for Epilepsy, where I walked to raise awareness. I have also volunteered at PIN Ministry, which is a homeless shelter, the Health Science night at Bayside High School, I was part of the Angel Tree, and on Christmas Eve, I delivered doughnuts with my family to those who were still working in the hospitals.
